Team Embry’s Matt Lynn Breaks Track Record at Nashville

By Bruce Wilkins

Nashville, Tennessee — Across the world this past weekend, motorcycle road racing saw incisive, intense action in a variety of races. Valentino Rossi actually misses the podium; Miguel Duhamel outfoxes teammate Jake Zemke on the last lap, snatching away what would have been his first Superbike win; and let’s not forget Nashville SuperSpeedway where, on the club-level, an achievement perhaps even more amazing took place.

Veteran Vesrah star Tray Batey was passed on the last turn of the last lap by rising star Matt Lynn on the Team Embry Suzuki GSX-R1000, who also broke the track record at Nashville SuperSpeedway during the Formula 1 race.

Georgia resident Lynn, who is a member of Team FDK that placed third overall in the WERA Endurance series race on Saturday, also recorded a second place finish on Sunday in the 600SS sprint and a seventh in OpenSS. But the Formula 1 race seemed to be the focal point of the weekend’s awesome competition in which race bikes were flying and records were falling.

Earlier in the 750SS race, Batey broke the track record which he set in 2003 with a lap time of 1:03:11, lowering his time on Sunday to an awesome fast lap of 1:02:214.

But in the heat of battle and obviously determined to beat the gentlemanly but fierce competitor Batey to the finish line, Lynn recorded a lap 8 blistering time of 1:01:769, shattering the track record and propelling him to victory.

Lynn and Batey will again compete against each other in the WERA Cycle Jam at VIR later this month. So forget Rossi, Duhamel, Zemke, and hey, even Rusty Wallace bad-mouthing Tony Stewart. The next battle between Batey and Lynn will be as exciting racing as you will find in the world!
