CCS Mid-Atlantic Roadracing Championship Event this Weekend at VIR

By Bruce Wilkins

Bored with spending your leisure time watching or participating in the same old pastimes that have suddenly become cliche? Then, turn over a new leaf and seek some real adventure for a change! You can see some of the most awesome extreme sport action this weekend at VIR, April 12-13, at the Mid-Atlantic Roadracing Championship event sanctioned by CCS. For more information log onto: www.ccsracing.com or www.formulausa.com.

Now, if you're into NASCAR style racing, then this of course may not be your cup of tea. While there are plenty of empty seats available at local Saturday night NASCAR races, in the popular NASCAR level of the Winston Cup Series, you are confined to a tight little space, surrounded by fellow fans who may or may not be enjoyable to be packed up against for the length of a race.

However, viewing a race at VIR is a totally different and refreshing manner of spectating. In fact, as a fan, you almost feel a part of the event itself as you can walk along the paddock areas and see up close the racers, mechanics, and others, something that is virtually impossible in the world of NASCAR.

While the annual AMA Superbike races at VIR are the largest and most well-attended racing events in the history of Halifax County, the massive crowds are not seen at that level to other motorcycle road racing events at this famed road course.

For example, this weekend¹s Mid-Atlantic Roadracing Championship Series event sanctioned by the Championship Cup Series has the breath-taking action and style of the AMA Superbike teams, but just not the crowded viewing areas or heavy traffic. In fact, this CCS event is the best ofboth worlds. There¹s excellent racing and many extremely serious teams who are capable of putting on some of the closest racing action you can find. But there¹s also many newcomers to the sport and watching them learn their craft is all part of anyone¹s appreciation of the true essence of motorsports.

Not only is CCS of Formula USA weekends at VIR a great family outing for the kids, it can be just as exciting for senior citizens and whole lot more comfortable than a typical round track spectating experience. There¹s a spacious shaded food court that has one of the best viewing areas on the track. Last year, I took my 89-year-old father to a motorcycle race and he definitely enjoyed himself as I drove him around to the various vantage points while he could still stay in the air-condition.

So do something pleasantly different this weekend. Check out CCS¹s back page ad in the latest edition of The Breeze or go on-line at www.ccsracing.com. You and your family will be amazed and will certainly never forget the experience!
