LYNCHBURG, Va. - Road racers Kevin Jenkins and David Glover look more like members of the defensive line of a football team than they do motorcycle road racers. To be sure, Medieval Racing is one team that an irate fellow rider won't barge into and try to stir anything up - old-time NASCAR style - after any framming and bamming on the track. But to those who know Jenkins and Glover, as well as new team member Paul Johnson, these racers happen to be some of the most polite and nicest gentlemen at any track.

Sponsored by Lockhart Phillips USA and C&M Racing, Medieval Racing may not gain the hole shot and top of the podium each time out, but their obvious and inherent love of the sport, as well as adventure in general, make each race weekend highly successful.

Jenkins is the team captain and better known in the paddocks by his long-time nickname, Buckwild. He's been a street rider for 23 years and completed his first season of road racing last year. Born and raised in Staten Island, New York, Jenkins now lives in Lynchburg, Va. where he is a computer specialist with a cablevision company. At 6'4" tall, he was a serious boxer and has won Golden Glove titles in New York and Virginia.

Glover is also a solid 6'4" and athletic and was once a karate champion in the city of Pontiac, Michigan from where he originally hails. He currently holds brown belts in two different forms of karate. Yet despite his size and karate expertise, Glover is often referred to by his friends as a geek, since he is in electronics repair and also built the team's colorful website. Glover currently lives in Baltimore, Maryland. Like Jenkins, Glover has been street riding for 23 years and completed his first full year of racing last season.

Medieval Racing increases in size this year with expert racer Paul Johnson joining up. They will venture to tracks such as Virginia International Raceway and Summit Point and perhaps others as they gain more and more track time.

Jenkins may have solidified his nickname with a couple of nasty high-sides last year, one at VIR and one at Summit Point, but he walked away from each one, looking at the incidents as learning experiences. The good-natured attitude of Medieval Racing prevailed and even generated Jenkins' colorful commentary in the excellent race report section of the team's website.

So, the next time you're walking through a WERA or CCS paddock somewhere and you see a pop-up that provides shade for what you may think are a couple of Tampa Bay Buccaneers, don't be intimidated. You'll find members of the Medieval Racing Team among the most approachable and fun-loving racers around.
